Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Step Down Duration: 16 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (19:00 - 07:30) Experience: Minimum of 2 years of acute care nursing experience, including at least 1 year of PCU experience. License: Valid nursing license required. Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required. Must-Have: Current acute care experience, strong background in surgical oncology. Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a mixed acuity unit caring for both step down and medical surgical patients. This is a busy surgical floor requiring strong nursing skills and adaptability. The ideal candidate should be capable of handling patient assignments with a staffing ratio goal of 1:4, though it may vary to 1:5. Weekend scheduling will be variable based on unit needs with no set or blocked scheduling offered. Staff may be required to float within their scope of practice. Candidates accepting a rotating contract may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination according to department needs. Shift assignments will be reviewed every four weeks but changes depend on staffing priorities. The patient age group includes adults and geriatrics. Diagnoses commonly encountered include breast, thyroid, melanoma, liver, pancreas, bile duct cancers, colorectal issues, and reconstructive surgeries. Special procedures include administration of chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, and management of oncologic emergencies. A strong focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention is essential. Candidates must be skilled in patient telemetry, management of dysrhythmias, and care for tracheostomy patients. The unit employs computerized charting, and experience with such systems is required. Candidates must demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills, collaborating with interdisciplinary support services. Requirements include a commitment to patient safety and quality care in a high-acuity environment. Additional skills like BiPAP/CPAP management and chest tube care are also valuable. Candidates are expected to complete necessary credentialing processes promptly.
