Job Title: RN Surgical Specialty Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 1 year of acute care surgical floor experience. License: Current RN License issued by the state board of nursing or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC). Certifications: Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association. Must-Have: Stepdown/PCU experience required. Med Surg experience is needed as the unit has inpatients pre or post-surgical services. Description: Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments. Notes all changes in physician orders on assigned patients. Assists physicians in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes physiological manifestations of patients, and intervenes when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with family and patients in sharing care plans while in the hospital and at the time of discharge. Informs patients and families of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Performs other duties as assigned. Candidates will care for patients post-operatively and need experience taking care of patients with new drains, wounds, tracheostomies, ostomies, NGT, or DHT. Some patients will require Stepdown care as well. Ratios are 5:1 for surgical patients and 3:1 for Stepdown area. Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures is required. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques is essential. Must maintain good working relationships with other employees. Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary. Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors is required. Some computer skills are necessary.
