Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Valid unexpired driver's license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips, experience with titrating drips, and familiarity with patient care in a stepdown unit Description: The unit is an Intermediate Care Unit with a capacity of 30 beds, including 14 private and 16 semi-private rooms. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5, aiming for 1:4; occasionally, it may reach 1:6. Charge nurses are required to take on a full patient assignment on both day and night shifts. Clinical assistants are available to support the nursing staff, working designated shifts. Nurses work alongside certified nursing assistants, with ratios of approximately 1:10 to 1:12. Weekend considerations require Friday, Saturday, and Sunday shifts as part of the regular schedule. Flexibility is expected for holiday coverage as needed. Scrub colors for nursing staff are navy blue for tops and bottoms, along with navy scrub jackets. Nursing staff utilizes telemonitoring systems with trained technicians supporting telemetry, but nurses must interpret their own strips. Nurses are expected to titrate various medications, including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetolol, Nitro, Heparin, and occasionally Lasix. Respiratory equipment is managed by respiratory therapists who are available 24/7. Pharmacy services are also accessible around the clock. Shifts require staff to be present and prepared for duty by 6:45 AM or PM. Self-scheduling is permissible provided the unit's needs are adequately met. All staff may be required to float to other areas as needed, maintaining appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios. The first two days of work involve orientation with human resources and a preceptor on the unit. Common patient diagnoses include chest pain, risk of myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, post-pacemaker care, and pre/post catheterizations. There is a strict policy concerning attendance, allowing for two shift cancellations per contract period. Failure to adhere to attendance protocols can result in termination. Familiarity with the electronic charting system is also necessary. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is not required for submission.
