Job Title: RN PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Pulmonary/GI Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year in PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown settings License: Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Epic charting experience required Description: POSITION: RN PCU (Pulmonary/GI) Scheduling details include shift hours of 3x12, 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM. Charting experience in Epic is mandatory. There may be every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling block. All requests for time off must be included with the submission. The facility is allowed to call off 1 shift every 2 weeks. Each nurse must work one holiday during the 13-week contract. First-time travelers are welcome. Local candidates are accepted. The nursing unit serves adults and geriatric patients. The daily census on this unit is 27. The unit primarily focuses on pulmonary and GI issues. There are no ventilators on this unit. Nurses may work without CNA support. Floating to other units within skillset may be required. The patient-nurse ratio is 1:5. Common skills required include cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation. Nurses should be capable of IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care. Experience with common IV medications such as Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, and Amiodarone is necessary. Nurses may provide respiratory support and manage non-invasive airway interventions. Utilizing rapid response or code teams, along with isolation precautions, is expected. This position requires teamwork with interdisciplinary support services. Nurses should be flexible and willing to float to either another PCU or medical-surgical unit as needed. Healthcare professional must adhere to all safety and compliance requirements.
