Description:
Unit consists of 18 beds, including 6 PCU capable beds.
All rooms are private.
Temporary walls and an air handling system are in place to accommodate COVID patients if needed.
Charge nurse is present 24/7 and may take 0-2 patients when necessary.
Nurse managers conduct rounds but do not provide patient care.
Support staff includes telemetry techs, charge nurses, healthcare unit coordinators, and patient care technicians.
CNA staff split the floor, each taking up to 9 patients.
Registered nurse to patient ratios are 1:4 for telemetry and 1:3 for PCU/stepdown.
Telemetry system utilizes Phillips monitors, with a monitor tech room available.
Nurses are expected to validate monitor technicians' interpretations and document every 4 hours or more frequently as needed.
Common medications administered include Cardizem, amiodarone, bumex, Lasix, integrillin, octreotide, and protonix.
High flow oxygen is used for COVID step down patients, with home CPAP available for others.
Clientists are in-house 24/7.
Respiratory therapists and pharmacy support are available 24/7.
Weekend requirements include working every other weekend, covering both days and nights.
Common diagnoses treated on the unit include AMI, stroke/TIA, pneumonia, renal dialysis, afib rvr, SIRS, and diabetes mellitus.
Nurses may float to all medical surgical units as needed.
Cancellation policy allows for up to 3 cancellations per 13 weeks.
The charting system used is Allscripts.
