Job Title: Stepdown Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: PCU RN Type: Stepdown Duration: 16 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent hospital acute experience License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Epic experience within the last year - Telemetry experience - Strong IV skills Description: The position requires working in a stepdown unit. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:4 and may increase based on staffing and acuity. Common diagnoses include pre and post CABG care, chest pain, new onset of Afib, and cardiac abnormalities. Nurses will also care for patients with CHF, renal failure, pneumonia, COPD, and altered mental status. Experience managing acute kidney and dialysis patients is advantageous. All nurses must have strong telemetry skills and experience in reading and interpreting cardiac strips. The unit is supported by monitor technicians who operate 24/7. Nurses should be able to titrate drips such as Heparin and Amiodarone/Cardizem. Charge nurses typically do not take patient assignments but may occasionally assist. There is a presence of nurse aides on the unit, with ratios varying depending on census. Doctors may write orders that require nursing judgment and assessment for titration. Weekend work is mandatory, requiring a minimum of 6 Saturdays or Sundays in a 6-week period. Travelers will also be expected to work during holidays based on unit needs. There is no on-call or standby requirement for this role. All nurses must clock in and out during their shifts. Nurses will participate in a combination of classroom and unit orientation on the first day. The dress code requires black scrubs, including both top and bottom.
