Must have experience with monitoring cardiac patients and interpreting telemetry. Must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips. Description: This is a cardiac stepdown unit. The unit has a ratio of 1 nurse to 5 patients. There are 44 beds, including 8 semi-private rooms. Common diagnoses include CABG, cardiovascular surgeries, thoracotomies, and other cardiac-related conditions. Patients may require various drips, including Cardizem, amiodarone, and dobutamine. The nurse will work with BiPap, CPAP, and vapotherm but no full mechanical vents. The charge nurse provides clinical supervision in this unit. Nurses will float to ICU but will only take stepdown patients unless they have ICU experience. Rapid turnover of rooms is expected, with an average census of 32-38 patients. Discharges and admissions may range from 12-16 patients in a busy shift. The nurse may be required to pull pacer wires, with orientation provided if needed. Holiday and weekend shifts are required.
