Description:
The registered nurse assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and supervises individual patient care using the nursing process.
Accepts responsibility for direction of co-workers and delegation of role appropriate tasks in the implementation of care.
Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Job Expectations and Responsibilities:
Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for each patient according to the nursing process.
Provides quality care based on assessment needs and established plan of care/pathway.
Provides education for patients and families/significant others throughout the admission and discharge process.
Documents the nursing process/pathway thoroughly, concisely, accurately, and legibly.
Notifies the physician of pertinent observations and changes in patient status.
Administers medications and performs treatments accurately and safely.
Implements physician orders as written.
Ensures equipment and supplies are readily available for patient care and reports malfunctions to the proper department.
Physical Capacity Demand:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Position may require frequent patient handling activity.
Psychological/Mental Considerations:
Position requires the ability to regulate emotions and exercise self-control in the workplace.
Must be able to manage urgent situations calmly.
Ability to communicate empathetically with patients and demonstrate genuine care for their welfare.
Displays confidence in being assertive in interpersonal situations.
Supervises and directs the work of nursing assistants in a professional manner.
May experience stress related to time management challenges and working with individuals who may be in pain, confused, or agitated.
Cognitive Requirements:
Position requires intact cognitive function in the areas of attention, memory, perception, and thought.
Ability to prioritize work tasks when multiple issues need attention.
Keen observation and accurate reporting skills are needed.
Strong organization, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills are essential.
