Description:
The acute and intermediate care unit specializes in thoracic, cardiac, and vascular surgical patient care.
Patients are admitted for various procedures, including coronary artery bypass grafting, cardiac valve repair and replacement, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, lung resection, esophagectomy, heart and lung transplantation, limb amputations, femoral popliteal bypass, and carotid endarterectomy.
The nurse-patient ratio is 4 or 5:1 in acute care and 3:1 in the intermediate care setting.
The unit contains 28 beds, including 22 acute-care beds and 6 intermediate care beds.
The intermediate care unit provides care for patients who do not require intensive care yet need more advanced monitoring than what is available in acute care.
Types of patients include those who have undergone lobectomies, those receiving thrombolytic therapy, coronary artery bypass grafting, valve replacements, and lung transplants.
Some patients are directly admitted from post-anesthesia care, while others arrive from the intensive care unit.
The intermediate care unit can also accommodate patients on select cardiac drips and arterial lines.
Every other weekend is required, and employees must work 2 out of the 3 winter holidays.
Staff must adhere to the facility's float policy and have previous experience in a similar role.
Candidates may have a pending Virginia nursing license but must possess the license before the start date.
Epic experience is mandatory for this position.
