Job Title: Registered Nurse - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stroke Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years in acute care License: Required Certifications: BLS ACLS NIHSS Must-Have: PCU level RN experience NIHSS experience Management and placement of central venous lines Foley catheter management Tube feeding via NGT or PEG Arterial line management Diabetes management Drip titration for Levophed, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Insulin Ability to pass an EKG competency exam Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a PCU setting specializing in stroke care. The nurse will be responsible for monitoring patients with conditions such as CVA and TIA. Patient ratios are 1:3 for RNs and 1:6 for CNAs. Adequate personal protective equipment is provided. A charge nurse will take patient assignments based on staffing needs. There is no phlebotomy available on the unit. A VAT team is available for PICC and midline placements. Support staff includes respiratory therapy and hospitalists available 24/7. Charting is done using an electronic medical record system. Floating to stepdown or med-surg units is required due to staffing needs. Weekend rotations are mandatory, with every other weekend required. The nurse may work a 4-day work week one week and a 3-day work week the next. Requests for time off are limited and require additional contract extensions for full weeks. Professionalism is expected; cell phone use and eating in patient care areas are prohibited. Scrub color is pewter, with specific guidelines for t-shirts and jackets. Badges must be worn visibly at all times.
