Description:
This position involves caring for patients who require close monitoring and advanced interventions.
The unit has a capacity of 10 beds that manage both ICU and PCU overflow patients.
The patient ratios are 2:1 for ICU and 4-5:1 for PCU.
Staffing includes 1 Charge RN and 5 Staff RNs on night shifts.
No unit secretaries or patient care technicians are available.
Equipment utilized includes lift equipment, Targeted Temperature Management (TTM) devices, ventilators, and IV pumps.
The documentation system in place is Cerner.
Scheduling requires working 12-hour shifts, every other weekend, and support for holiday shifts.
Floating to different units may be required.
Bedside shift report is mandatory for all staff.
Relief charge nurses must perform nurse leader rounding.
Advanced skills needed include ventilator management, critical care pharmacology, advanced hemodynamic monitoring, and central line management.
Procedures performed on the unit include assisting providers with bedside procedures such as chest tube insertion and intubations.
