Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Able to read cardiac monitor Able to administer narcotics Description: General comments about the unit: The unit has 18 beds and a total of 38 staff members. On day shift, ideally, there are 5 RNs, 1 Charge Nurse, and 2 Patient Care Technicians. On night shift, there are typically 5 nurses and 1 Patient Care Technician. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 4:1. The unit uses equipment such as central lines, PCA pumps, Foley catheters, chest tubes, pacer wires, telemetry, and drains. The electronic medical record system used is Meditech. Typical skills that are recruited for include the ability to read cardiac monitors and administer narcotics. Preferred skills include stepdown experience and cardiac knowledge. Typical procedures performed on the unit include CABG, valve replacement, TAVR, mitral clip, thoracotomy, atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, and myocardial infarction. Common cardiac drips include Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, and nitroglycerin. The ideal candidate should be a team player with critical thinking skills and a kind and compassionate demeanor. Required certifications include BLS and ACLS. The unit may require floating to telemetry and medical-surgical areas. The dress code requires navy scrubs. Vital signs and assessments are performed every 4 hours. Rhythm interpretation is also completed every 4 hours. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend.
