Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Pulmonary Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Hours (18:45 - 07:15) Experience: Minimum of 2 years required License: Current state license or compact license Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: - Previous travel experience - Skills in IV start, ventilation management, telemetry, and CPAP/BiPAP - Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias Description: RTO after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on the unit may result in cancellation. The unit accepts 13-26 week contracts. A maximum of 7 days RTO is automatically approved. All RTO must be pre-approved. The unit requires floating to similar units. Every other weekend work is expected. Patient population includes those with COPD, pneumonia, respiratory distress, COVID-19, flu, and pulmonary embolism. The acuity level is on the higher end for a med-surg unit. A team lead will be present in a 3:1 ratio that rounds the whole unit. Two respiratory therapists are assigned during shifts, along with an assistant nurse manager. No nurse will manage more than one vent patient at a time. The unit consists of 48 beds in total. The CNA ratio is approximately 9-10:1. Most patients experience COPD exacerbations, pneumonia, or acute respiratory failure. The patient population may also include telemetry monitoring or patients with chest tubes. Special equipment available includes chest tubes, infusions, ventilators, trach care, and BiPAP/CPAP. Staffing resources involve an Admission/Discharge nurse, assistant nurse manager, vascular access team, rapid response team, and code team. Teamwork and adhering to policy are essential.
