The facility is a community-based hospital with a focus on teaching. The unit provides care to patients with continuous monitoring of cardiac, respiratory, hemodynamic, and neurologic status. Common diagnoses include NSTEMI, heart failure, and post-stroke patients. Patient types also include those requiring surgical recovery and continuous support. The RN will manage patients with an average ratio of 1:3 or 1:4. Support staff includes Certified Nursing Assistants. A Resource Team is available for additional support. The RN is responsible for continuous cardiac monitoring and interpretation of rhythms. The role requires proficiency in the use of electronic medical records and specific monitoring equipment. Supervisory and rapid response teams are available for assistance. The unit culture emphasizes teamwork and collaboration among interdisciplinary staff.
