# Job Opportunity – Registered Nurse (RN) – Trauma Stepdown – Texas

Start Date: October 19, 2026
Location: Denton, Texas
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: Night shift, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio (1:5 maximum for stepdown)

Highlights:

• 25-bed surgical trauma stepdown unit on the 5th floor serving a Level 2 trauma center
• Diverse case mix including trauma surgery, orthopedics, bariatric, vascular, neurosurgery, general surgery, and cardiac patients
• Telemetry monitoring with Q4 vitals and patient assessments
• EMR system: Meditech
• No on-call requirement; floating limited to stepdown service lines (Progressive Care Unit/Heart and Vascular Unit)
• Collaborative team environment with 44 FTE staff members and strong support structure including charge nurse, techs, and unit secretary

Requirements:

• Active RN license in Texas
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH certifications required
• Trauma and/or orthopedic experience strongly preferred
• Meditech experience preferred
• Strong customer service and communication skills essential
• Team player with adaptability to changing clinical environments

Clinical Experience:

This unit cares for patients requiring acute surgical intervention and post-operative care across multiple specialties. Typical patient populations include trauma surgery, traumatic brain injury, bariatric surgery, vascular surgery, general surgery, urological and orthopedic procedures, neurosurgery/spine surgery, GI bleeds, pulmonary embolus, CVA/TIA, new onset seizures, hypertensive crisis, CHF, chest pain, cardiac catheterization patients, alcohol withdrawal, and respiratory distress requiring BiPAP or CPAP. Experience with IV drip management including heparin, amiodarone, cardizem, nitroglycerin, and vasopressors is beneficial.
