On day shift, there are 11 PCTs and 12 RNs. On night shift, there are 6 PCTs and 13 RNs. The patient ratios are 1:5 for PCU level and 1:6 for MST level. The unit is equipped with VS machines, EKG, bladder scanners, glucometers, and continuous pulse oximetry. The EMR system used is Meditech. There is no on-call requirement. Floating is required within the scope of practice. Preferred or desirable skills include PCCN, TNCC, or TCAR certifications. Typical procedures performed in the unit include Foley and NGT insertions and wound care. The best personality fit is a flexible, adaptable, quick learner with a positive attitude. The unit fosters a positive work culture and is flexible with scheduling. The unit has recently become the official trauma PCU. There is an initiative for upskilling staff to take on PCU level patients.
