Description:
The position involves working in a high-acuity PACU environment.
This unit is open 24/7 and consists of 38 patient bays.
The average daily census ranges from 70 to 90 patients.
Both adults and geriatric populations are included in the patient demographic.
The staff is responsible for recovering a diverse array of surgical patients.
Surgical patients include those undergoing neurosurgery, ENT procedures, plastics, orthopedics, thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, trauma care, general surgery, colorectal surgery, gynecology, urology, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, and transplant procedures.
Please note that open-heart surgeries and liver transplants are not part of the recovery process in this unit.
Average patient ratios are dependent on the daily census and acuity levels.
Critical care experience is essential, as some patients may require artificial airways, invasive monitoring, transfusions, and vasoactive drugs.
Night shift staff may be expected to learn how to work up preoperative patients when not actively recovering patients in the PACU.
Experience with drains, vasoactive drips, mechanical ventilation, and recovery from general anesthesia is required.
