We care for patients who have undergone a variety of surgeries. The most frequent surgeries include vascular, general, thoracic, gynecological, neurological, orthopedic, kidney transplants, and Whipple procedures. Ventricular monitoring is required for patients with ventricular drains. Patients requiring ICP monitoring will be transferred directly to ICU. The unit experiences high acuity and high volume with a fast-paced environment, especially during evening shifts. Overnight boarders regularly include ICU craniotomy patients, step-down patients, and medical-surgical patients. Candidates must be comfortable working in a controlled chaos environment.
