Job Title: PACU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Post Anesthesia Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Mixed Hours per Shift: 8 and 12 hours Experience: Minimum 3 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: - Experience recovering pediatric patients - Ability to second phase patients out of OR Description: The unit accommodates both Phase 1 and Phase 2 patients. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:2, except for pediatric patients or higher acuity cases, where the ratio is 1:1. Common cases include mixed patients, with pediatric patients being treated daily. Some patients may have disabilities and require sensitive care. All OR cases are managed, with the exception of transplants. Team members include a charge nurse, who provides break relief and occasionally takes an assignment. Travel staff will not be utilized in the charge nurse role. Nurse aids are available, with a ratio of sometimes 1 aide in the department. RNs are responsible for patient transport. Patients may be ventilated to nasal cannula. The unit can accommodate ICU patients and can hold those on pressors or needing blood products. Registered nurses are required to read cardiac strips. Scheduling includes mixed 8 and 12-hour shifts, with specific times outlined. On-call requirements include a maximum of 1-2 nights per 6-week schedule, totaling a maximum of 8 on-call shifts. There is a requirement for 24 hours of weekend call in a 6-week schedule. Holiday calls are managed as needed during the contract. The call response time is 30 minutes. Travel staff may float to inpatient units as assisting hands or sitters. Scrubs will be provided for all staff. Successful candidates will demonstrate kindness, a willingness to help others, efficiency, and teamwork. RTO is needed upfront, with limited approvals for additional requests during the contract. Care setting is acute, with a trauma level of 2.
