The nurse utilizes the nursing process in accordance with hospital standards and unit policies/procedures. This role monitors and evaluates patient functional status. The nurse completes assessments and individualizes plans of care within established guidelines. Nursing care is carried out with consideration for cultural and psychosocial factors. The nurse organizes, prioritizes, and performs nursing skills appropriate for the patient population. The role anticipates patient and unit needs. A sound knowledge base in bio-psychosocial factors is demonstrated. The nurse delegates and communicates effectively and appropriately. Professional judgment is utilized in response to changing patient and unit situations. Steps of the nursing process are documented on the appropriate record. Data is recorded concisely, consistently, accurately, and legibly. Correct medical terminology and abbreviations are utilized. Problems and progress toward outcomes are addressed according to unit policy. Patient teaching and discharge facilitation are part of the responsibilities. Timely and appropriate referrals are made. Resources are utilized in planning and presenting patient education. Collaboration with other disciplines is conducted as appropriate. Unit and hospital goals are supported through performance improvement and educational activities. Attendance at mandatory in-services is required to meet unit education standards. Variance reports are accurately completed. Independent judgment is exercised in planning operations and making minor decisions. This role works directly with patients and customers. Collaboration with internal and external customers as well as other healthcare professionals and staff is essential.
