Description:
The Registered Nurse is a clinical practitioner.
The RN coordinates and implements patient care specific to the age of the patient population served on the assigned units.
They ensure that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner, consistent with the unit's standards of care.
They demonstrate performance consistent with the mission, philosophy, and goals of the unit and organization.
The RN demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice.
They treat staff, physicians, patients, and families with consideration and respect.
Responsibilities include obtaining and recording initial assessments and establishing priorities according to patient age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs.
The RN will re-assess patient systems systematically to identify progress and trends that require intervention.
They develop and implement a measurable individualized plan of care for the patient within the timeframe established by Nursing Standards of Care.
The RN makes comprehensive nursing decisions based on the interpretation of facts and evaluations of patient outcomes, modifying the plan of care based upon the evaluations.
They participate in patient/significant other health education and discharge planning.
Timely interventions appropriate to patient needs will be implemented and documented.
The RN will evaluate the plan of care.
They perform various Point of Care testing procedures.
Education and Skills required include graduation from an accredited program for Registered Nursing.
Current knowledge and skills appropriate to the age/type of patient population served.
Knowledgeable and sensitive to patient rights in the delivery of care.
Effective communication in a clear and concise manner appropriate to the developmental age of the patient is essential.
All newly hired nurses with two or less years of experience as a Registered Nurse will be hired in at a CNI status.
A new hire can be considered for a higher clinical ladder level based on years of relevant experience in the clinical area, national professional nursing certification, and achievement of additional nursing education.
