Description:
The position is for the PACU unit.
Nurse-patient ratios are Pre-op: 1:3; Phase 1: 1:2; Phase 2: 1:3.
Common cases include anesthesia recoveries and sedation for outpatients and inpatients.
Typical procedures involve heart catheterizations, both left and right, pacemakers, ablations, and electrophysiology studies.
Structural heart procedures include TAVRs, LAAOs, and PFO closures.
Vascular surgeries include carotid endarterectomies, carotid stenting, bypasses, AAA repairs, and angiograms.
Thoracic procedures include hiatal hernia repairs, lung resections, mediastinoscopies, and EGDs.
CT surgery recovery includes CABGs and valves, but does not include open sternotomy patients or LVADs.
The electronic medical record system used is EPIC.
Charge nurses do not take assignments.
Nurse aide support is provided by Perioperative Care Assistants, with 3-5 per day covering the unit collectively.
Registered nurses are responsible for reading cardiac strips.
ICU patients may occasionally recover in PACU.
Call is required and will be assigned as needed.
Call shifts include weekends and hospital-recognized holidays, rotating equally among the nursing staff.
Call hours are from 0600-1830, with a one-hour response time.
Floating to other units is not required.
Scrub color/dress code is provided, and a survival guide is available.
There is a cancellation policy of 2 shifts for 13-week assignments.
Charting is conducted using the EPIC system.
A BSN degree is not required for this position.
The care setting is acute.
Shifts must include a combination of three designated 12-hour shifts per week.
Required certifications are ACLS and BLS.
