Description:
Unit requires epic experience.
Position involves both preoperative and PACU responsibilities.
Staff will be expected to support endoscopy care.
Flexibility is essential, as staff may transition between all areas.
Day shift staff may start in preoperative and transition to PACU.
Patient-to-nurse ratios are as follows: 1:3 in preop, 1:2 in Phase 1, and 1:1-3 in Phase 2.
Common surgical cases include general, orthopedic, urology, obstetrics, and gynecology.
Job duties include preparing patients for surgery and managing recovery post-anesthesia.
Staff are involved in restocking and patient turnover between procedures.
Charge nurse manages unit flow and may take an assignment as needed.
Two aides assist in preoperative duties such as EKGs, blood draws, transfers, and vitals.
Respiratory therapy is available for assistance.
ICU patients may occasionally recover in the PACU.
RNs must be able to read and identify rhythm changes and life-threatening rhythms.
Scheduling includes multiple start times and set schedules determined by management.
May be required to participate in on-call scheduling.
Response time for call is approximately 30 minutes.
Floating to other areas may be expected but is not typical.
Scrubs provided with unit-specific orientation.
