A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a group of patients.
The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe effective patient and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes.
The RN is responsible for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit.
The RN promotes personal development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education.
The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members.
The RN uses the caring processes of the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care.
The RN is responsible for assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating the plan of care.
The RN focuses on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction.
The RN applies educational and professional experiences in the delivery of quality care.
The RN is also involved in mentoring and precepting staff.
Job Responsibilities:
Assessment: Performs assessments and reassessments per policy and procedure or as warranted by patient condition.
Demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions.
Development & Implementation: Initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care.
Reviews and revises the plan as indicated.
Collaborates with the patient/family and interdisciplinary services.
Utilizes resources appropriately to support the needs of the organization, patient, and family.
Evaluation: Monitors and documents the response to clinical interventions.
Education: Facilitates and coordinates patient and family education.
Evaluates education specific to patient and family needs during their stay and discharge.
Leadership: Delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel.
Functions as a mentor and preceptor.
Demonstrates and encourages teamwork.
Identifies and communicates opportunities for improvement.
Participates in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts.
Implements practice changes and complies with regulatory standards.
