Description:
The position involves working in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit.
The nurse will care for patients before and after surgery, as well as in interventional radiology and endoscopy.
Floating to Pre-Op is required as needed by the unit.
The position requires on-call obligations of 6 shifts per 6 weeks.
Weekend coverage includes call only with 2 weekend shifts and 4 night shifts per 6 weeks.
Familiarity with general surgery, orthopedic, urology/gynecology, bariatric, and HEENT procedures is essential.
Responsibilities include obtaining a 12-lead EKG, managing arterial lines, and recognizing and managing dysrhythmias.
The role also encompasses care for ventilated patients and involves administration of narcotics and analgesics.
Pain assessment and management, as well as handling of PCA pumps and management of reversal agents, are key responsibilities.
Additional skills required include knowledge of malignant hyperthermia protocols and monitoring ICP.
This position will cater to various patient populations including adolescents, adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics.
A total of 30 visits per day is anticipated within this role.
The facility operates a level 3 trauma center and serves a diverse patient base.
Candidates must be willing to float to preoperative settings as needed.
Candidates should have a strong background in inpatient, phase I PACU care.
Experience with various surgical specialties and procedures is highly recommended.
Candidates should demonstrate effective pain management and assessment skills.
Teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration are pivotal in this position.
Adapting to changing unit needs and requirements is expected.
