Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Pediatric ICU position requiring BLS, PALS, and at least 2 years of PICU experience.

Details

  • Work in the Pediatric ICU (PICU) with potential cross-coverage to Pediatric CVICU
  • 13-week assignment with October start date
  • Rotating day and night shifts (4x12 hours), 7:00-19:00 or 19:00-7:00
  • Scheduled for 36 or 48 hours per week
  • 3 weekends required per six-week schedule
  • Required to work 2 of the 3 winter holidays
  • May float to NICU and Acute Care Pediatrics based on staffing needs
  • 1:2 patient ratio
  • Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

  • Active VA or Compact RN license (pending license accepted, must be in hand by the Wednesday before start)
  • BLS and PALS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required, including 2 years of charge nurse experience
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • BSN preferred
  • Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • Peds cardiac experience a plus
  • Proficiency in respiratory care skills including ventilator management, ETT/NT suctioning, tracheostomy care, and ABG interpretation
  • Experience with IV therapy, central line management, and administration of blood products
  • Experience with emergency medications, vasopressors, and pediatric dosage calculations
  • Experience with hemodynamic monitoring and dysrhythmia management
  • Experience with neurologic monitoring including EVD and ICP management
  • Two professional references required

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients in a high-acuity ICU setting
  • Must float within scope of practice as needed to support unit staffing needs
  • Up to 16 non-billable hours of specialty-specific modules completed during orientation
  • Maximum of 40 hours of RTO approved per 13-week contract, with no additional time off approved after offer acceptance
  • No time off approved during the first 2 weeks of the contract
  • Any vacation time between sign date and start date must be disclosed prior to submission
  • Previous UVA Health permanent staff or internal/external travelers must have at least 1-year separation and leadership approval to be considered
  • External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return once this threshold is reached
  • No radius restriction applies to this position
