Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse is responsible for providing specialized care to patients aged up to 25 years with critical health needs. This position involves working in a fast-paced environment, attending to complex medical conditions, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to pediatric patients in critical condition.
• Monitor and assess patient conditions regularly, utilizing specialized epilepsy monitoring techniques.
• Administer medications and treatments as directed, including EKGs and inotropes.
• Ensure familiarity with and adherence to hospital protocols and guidelines.
• Participate actively in care planning and implementation alongside the healthcare team.
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans and health management.
• Perform other nursing duties as assigned and required.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 12 months of permanent experience in a specialty relevant to PICU nursing.
• Current and valid Ohio nursing license or compact state license in hand.
• Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are required.
• Experience with EKG rhythm recognition and medication management preferred.
• Completion of ECG rhythm recognition test and safeMedicate assessment with an acceptable score during orientation.
• Availability to work at least every other holiday as part of the schedule.

Work Schedule

This position will involve rotating shifts, including nights from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM and days from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM. While efforts will be made to honor travelers' preferred shifts, rotations may occur based on the operational needs of the unit.
