Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a PICU position requiring 2 years of experience, an active AK RN license, and BLS/PALS certification.

Details

  • PICU setting within an acute care Magnet hospital
  • Pediatric floor ratios are 1:4; PICU ratios are 1:2, with ventilated patients typically 1:1
  • Support staff includes CNAs and a med clerk; charge nurse typically carries no patient assignments
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 AM to 7:00 PM)
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required within scope to NICU and Peds units
  • Block scheduling accommodated
  • Cerner charting system used, with EPIC experience preferred

Requirements

  • Active AK RN license required prior to start; compact license accepted at time of submittal
  • Minimum 2 years of PICU nursing experience required
  • BLS and PALS certifications required
  • NRP certification copy required for consideration
  • Experience with ventilator management, central line care, and pediatric dosage calculations preferred
  • Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and administration of blood products preferred
  • Teaching hospital and Trauma Level II experience preferred
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Full 7-year work history with all employment gaps explained
  • Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to critically ill pediatric patients in the PICU, including ventilator and hemodynamic monitoring management
  • Must be culturally sensitive to the Native population served
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Onsite orientation includes billable training modules averaging 4-5 hours, completed via HealthStream
  • Annual completion of training modules required
  • COVID vaccination acknowledgment required prior to consideration
  • Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates not accepted
  • Previous travelers must have a 2-year gap before returning to this facility
  • No changes to contract terms (including RTO, start date, shifts) accepted once signed
