Registered Nurse - Medical-Surgical (Adult & Pediatric)

Job Summary

Join our dedicated team as a Registered Nurse on a 20-bed Medical-Surgical Unit in Fort Defiance, Arizona. This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to a diverse patient population, including adult geriatrics and pediatrics. You will manage a variety of medical and surgical conditions, ensuring high-quality patient outcomes.

The unit maintains excellent staffing ratios, typically 4:1 (max 5:1) for non-COVID patients and 2:1 (max 3:1) for COVID patients, fostering a supportive environment for both patients and staff. This position requires a compassionate and adaptable nurse comfortable caring for both adult and pediatric populations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care for adult, geriatric, and pediatric patients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring patient safety and adherence to protocols.
  • Monitor patient conditions, document observations accurately, and report changes to the healthcare team promptly.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, therapists, and other interdisciplinary healthcare team members to optimize patient care.
  • Educate patients and families on health conditions, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records (EHR) in compliance with hospital policies.
  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • May be assigned to assist with Flu Immunization clinics as needed.
  • Float to other departments as qualified and needed, performing patient care or task-oriented duties such as answering call lights and phones.
Required Qualifications
  • Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent Medical-Surgical RN experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of recent Pediatric RN experience.
  • Demonstrated comfort and competency in caring for both adult and pediatric patient populations.

Shift Details

Candidates must be flexible to work other shifts, including weekends and holidays, as operational needs dictate. Call requirements: Not specified. Weekend rotations are required.

Licensing Requirements
  • Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Arizona or a compact state license eligible for Arizona.
