Description:
Unit includes both pediatric and adult patients.
There are 12 beds in the unit, primarily semi-private.
Patient ratios vary by age, typically 1:4 but could be 1:6 with adult post-operative patients.
Common patient diagnoses include biliary babies, respiratory issues, RSV, cellulitis, and those requiring IV antibiotics.
PALS certification is required.
Nurses are not required to titrate drips.
Common drips may include IV fluids and possible insulin.
Charge nurses and house supervisors are available on the unit.
There may be support from patient care technicians or additional RN staff depending on census.
A pediatric hospitalist is available within 30 minutes, with one in-house at night.
Respiratory Therapy manages equipment, while nurses monitor.
There are no telemetry services provided.
Shifts are 12 hours from 7 PM to 7:30 AM.
Scheduling is coordinated by leadership.
A minimum of every third weekend is required, with holiday work as needed.
There may be occasions requiring assistance to ED staff with IV placements and outpatient lab collections.
Additional duties may include straight catheterization on the unit.
Cancellation policies include a limit on the number of shifts that can be canceled per assignment.
Charting is performed using the EPIC system.
A BSN is not required for this position.
