Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Pediatric Emergency Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 0 - 6 months of related experience License: Valid multi-state or state Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, PALS Must-Have: BLS through AHA, PALS Description: The Registered Nurse assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care. This is done using the nursing process in accordance with hospital standards and unit policies and procedures. The purpose is to monitor and evaluate patient functional status. The nurse utilizes the nursing process in caring for assigned patients. They complete assessments and individualize plans of care within established guidelines. Nursing care is carried out with consideration for cultural and psychosocial factors and ages of individual patients. The nurse organizes, prioritizes, and performs nursing skills appropriate for the patient population. They anticipate patient and unit needs. Demonstrating a sound knowledge base is essential. This includes bio-psychosocial aspects. Effective delegation and communication are required. Professional judgment is demonstrated in response to changing patient and unit situations. Documentation of the nursing process and care is done accurately and legibly. Data is recorded concisely, consistently, and with the correct medical terminology. Problems and progress toward outcomes are addressed according to unit policy. Facilitation of patient education and discharge is part of the role. Timely and appropriate referrals must be made. The nurse utilizes resources for patient education considering age and cultural and psychosocial factors. Collaboration with other disciplines is encouraged. Support for unit and hospital goals through performance improvement and educational activities is important. Attendance at mandatory in-services and meeting education standards is required. Variance reports must be completed accurately. Independent judgment is used in planning operations and making minor decisions. The Registered Nurse works directly with patients and customers. They interact with healthcare professionals and staff.
