Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Pediatric Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day and Night Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: 2 years of Pediatric MS experience required License: RN license required Certifications: BLS, PALS required Must-Have: Epic experience required Traveler will be required to pass a telemetry exam prior to start Description: The position requires day and night 12-hour shifts. The schedule includes 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Monday through Friday shifts along with every other weekend are mandatory. The unit provides a mix of acuity from general medical to stepdown care. Experience with patients requiring pulmonary lines and respiratory failure that may necessitate tracheostomy and ventilator dependence is essential. Knowledge of CPAP and BiPAP management is necessary. The patient population includes those with neuro conditions, diabetes, nephrology issues, spinal fusions, and general intermediate care. Responsibilities include the administration of blood products, anti-seizure medications, and management of respiratory equipment. The nurse will assist with lumbar punctures and support breastfeeding. Care involves the management of central lines, ports, and indwelling urinary catheters. Skill in pediatric dosage calculations and interpretation of dysrhythmias is needed. Experience in managing chest tubes and performing phlebotomy is required. Candidates must be capable of insuring infection prevention and isolation precautions. This role includes starting and maintaining IVs, caring for renal failure patients, and managing tracheostomies and ventilators. Wound assessment and care, alongside telemetry monitoring, are part of the expected duties. The unit is supported by various interdisciplinary services including physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services. Special procedures involve caring for patients with pulmonary diagnoses, neurological issues, and diabetic management. Travelers may be required to float to different areas as needed. Candidates should have a minimum of two years of acute care experience within the last three years in the specialty area. Pass/fail testing is required for telemetry with strict passing criteria. Travelers will have two attempts to pass the required exams. If the traveler fails the second attempt, a certificate of completion of a cardiac interpretation review course will be needed before the third attempt. Failure to pass after three attempts will lead to cancellation of the assignment.
