The Pediatric PeriAnesthesia Unit includes preoperative and postoperative pediatric care as well as a Pediatric Surgical Observation Unit that supports children needing extended recovery or overnight monitoring after surgery. Nurses on this team play a key role in ongoing assessment, patient and family education, and smooth discharge planning.

• Shift: Night shift, 3x12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,710 - $1,800
• Schedule Notes: Every other weekend and every other holiday
• Charting System: Epic experience required
• Education: BSN preferred

Job Requirements

• 2 years of recent nursing experience required
• Active Registered Nurse license or pending Virginia RN license accepted before start date
• ACLS, BLS, and PALS required
• Epic charting experience required
• Experience in pediatric nursing, PACU, perioperative, or post-anesthesia care strongly preferred
• Trauma Level I experience required
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and patient/family communication skills
• Ability to care for pediatric patients across infant, pediatric, and adolescent age groups
• Comfort working in a fast-paced surgical recovery environment

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality preoperative and postoperative nursing care for pediatric patients
• Monitor children recovering from surgery and support safe extended observation
• Assess pain, respiratory status, vital signs, and overall recovery progress
• Administer medications and support appropriate interventions during recovery
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgery, and multidisciplinary healthcare team members
• Educate patients and families on recovery expectations and discharge instructions
• Recognize changes in patient condition and respond quickly and appropriately
• Maintain accurate documentation and support smooth transitions of care
• Promote a safe, supportive, and family-centered care experience
