Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical Surgical/Pediatrics Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights (self-scheduling) + weekends as needed + first to float Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: 1 year(s) License: Required Certifications: BLS, PALS Must-Have: Effective communication, motivation, approachability, teamwork, and willingness to ask questions when unsure Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Medical Surgical and Pediatrics. The nurse will work primarily nights with a self-scheduling option. Weekend availability is needed as required. RNs will be the first to float as necessary. The unit comprises 17 beds, including 14 inpatient and 3 observation. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 during days and 1:5 during nights. Common patient diagnoses include urinary tract infections, altered mental status, pneumonia, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. RNs are not required to titrate drips. Common drips administered include electrolytes, with specific protocols for hypertensive medications and diuretics. A charge nurse is present on each shift, and they also take an assignment. There are nursing aids on the unit, with a ratio of 2 aids on days and 1 aid on nights. Pediatricians are on call for pediatric patients but are not in-house. Respiratory therapy primarily manages BiPap, with RNs occasionally troubleshooting equipment. Tele monitor technicians are available, and RNs apply telemetry to patients but do not need to read the strips. Self-scheduling is permitted for shifts, which run from 7 PM to 7 AM. Weekend requirements are as needed, with no holiday requirement stipulated. Floating may occur to Emergency Department or Intensive Care Unit for 1:1 patient assignments as necessary. Scrub color for staff is navy blue. Documentation is complex, and effective collaboration within the team is essential for success in this role. Candidates must possess a current license and required certifications. Additional time-off requests over 7 days need prior approval. Shift cancellations may occur as per established policies.
