The facility has a total of 637 licensed beds and is a Level 1 trauma designation. It is a teaching hospital and recognized as a Chest Pain and Stroke Center. The Pediatric OR consists of 4 operating rooms. Patients include surgical patients 18 years and younger, including some special needs patients of all ages. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:1. Charge nurses are present in each unit. Support staff includes CNAs who assist with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, and patient transport. The hospital has a designated transport team and nurses perform lab draws. The hospital has 24/7 respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist services. Telemetry monitoring is available in the OR. The electronic medical record system used is Epic. Essential equipment includes IV pumps, medication dispensing systems, and specialized monitoring devices. If floating is required, it may be to the PACU in Pediatrics as needed. Scheduling includes weekend rotations with on-call every 4th weekend and one weeknight per week. Holiday work expectations apply, and RTO requests need manager approval. Shifts may vary in times around standard operating hours. The unit culture is noted to be busy, yet emphasizes teamwork. Scrubs are provided in surgical green through a scrub exchange system.
