Description

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care in a 27-bed acuity-adaptive unit serving both ICU and step-down level pediatric cardiac patients, with ratios of 1:1, 1:2, or up to 1:3 based on census and acuity
  • Manage and monitor arterial lines, central lines, and transthoracic lines in pediatric cardiac patients
  • Support and participate in procedures including central line and arterial line placement, conscious sedation, intubation/extubation, sternal closures, ECMO cannulation/decannulation, CRRT, and manual PD
  • Provide post-operative recovery care for general and cardiac surgical patients, including management of congenital heart disease (CHD) patients
  • Operate unit equipment including IV pumps (Medfusion and Baxter), Hillrom beds, GE radiant warmers, Somanetics NIRS machines, and Servo U ventilators; document care using Meditech EMR
  • Float as needed to PICU, NICU, pediatric med-surg, and pediatric oncology units
Required Qualifications
  • Active RN license valid in Texas (or compact eligibility)
  • Minimum 1 year of Pediatric CICU/CVICU experience as a staff nurse
  • Minimum 2 years of PICU experience as a staff nurse
  • 3-4 prior travel contracts in a dedicated Pediatric CICU
  • Demonstrated experience caring for patients with congenital heart disease, including pre- and post-operative CHD management
  • Required certifications: PALS, BLS, and ACLS
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • 2 or more years of Pediatric CICU/CVICU experience as a staff nurse
  • At least 1 year of experience caring for neonatal cardiac patients, including pre- and post-operative management
  • 2 or more years of pediatric cardiac experience in a step-down or cardiology floor setting
  • Compassionate, detail-oriented team player who demonstrates adaptability and flexibility in a fast-paced environment
