**Job Description:**

- Type: Surgical Post-Operative Care Unit
- Location: Main Hospital
- Address: 7700 Floyd Curl Drive, San Antonio, TX 78229
- Floor: 5th Floor
- Building: North Tower
- **Unit Highlights:**
- Number of Beds: 32
- Staff Composition:
- Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 2-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), 7-8 Registered Nurses (RNs)
- Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 2-3 PCTs, 7 RNs
- Patient Ratios: 1:4, sometimes 1:5
- Equipment Used:
- Walkers, Kangaroo pumps, PCAs, chest tubes
- Ostomies, PEG tubes, NG tubes, Foley catheters
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System: Meditech
- **Candidate Profile:**
- **Must Have Skills:**
- Strong time management
- Excellent critical thinking
- **Preferred Skills:**
- Experience in PCU
- Experience with tracheostomy care
- **Typical Procedures Performed on Unit:**
- Airway management: Tracheostomy and Laryngectomy
- Bowel surgeries: Small bowel resection, ileostomy or colostomy, hernia repairs
- Pulmonary procedures: Bronchoscopy, lobectomies, chest tube placement
- Routine care: JP drains, biliary drains, TPN, tube feeds
- Telemetry monitoring
- **Ideal Candidate Personality:**

- **Required Certifications:**
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- **Floating Areas (If applicable):**
- Medsurg
- Medsurg PCU
- ED Holds
- **Dress Code:**
- Scrubs: Navy blue
- **Unit Guidelines/Policies:**
- Shift starts at 0645 and 1845
- Focus on collaborative care with interdisciplinary teams
- Emphasis on hygiene, oral care, and patient activity
- Communication with patients is key
- Infection prevention protocols
- Compliance with documentation
- **Schedule Requirements:**
- Rotating weekends
- No on-call duties
