TotalMed RN is seeking a travel nurse RN PCU - Progressive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Tacoma, Washington.

Job Description & Requirements

Unit: Mixed-acuity MedSurg/PCU
 

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of PCU experience; first-time travelers accepted with strong experience
  • BLS, ACLS and NIHSS
  • Telemetry, cardiac rhythm interpretation, CIWA, BiPAP, central line care, tube/drain management and IV skills
  • Chest tube management, trach care and home ventilator experience preferred
  • Epic experience preferred

Patient care and floating

  • Patients: Respiratory failure, sepsis, GI bleeds, bariatric post-op, diabetes, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, acute skilled nursing patients and TIA/stroke rule-out
  • Acuity: May care for both PCU and MedSurg patients during the same shift
  • Ratios: PCU 1:4–5; MedSurg/Telemetry 1:5; CNA 1:10
  • Medications: Cardizem, dopamine, heparin, nitroglycerin, Lasix and Dilaudid for comfort care/PCA. Frequent titration may prompt ICU transfer or reassignment.

Unit support

  • Usually a charge nurse without a fixed assignment
  • SWAT nurse for PICCs and procedure transport
  • Respiratory therapy and hospitalist coverage 24/7
  • Phlebotomy, daytime educator and daytime PT/OT/speech therapy
  • Equipment: Alaris pumps and Pyxis
