Clinical Nurse
The Clinical Nurse provides competent clinical nursing care that aligns with professional standards. This role involves coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process within a hospital setting, with accountability to the Nurse Manager/Director.
Essential Duties
- Education:
- Participates in identifying and addressing personal learning needs.
- Attends educational programs based on these learning needs.
- Utilizes patient education materials relevant to the patient population.
- Assesses the readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers.
- Evaluates the developmental level of patients and factors affecting their ability to learn.
- Evaluation of Care:
- Identifies expected patient outcomes and seeks guidance on revising the plan of care as needed.
- Participates in interdisciplinary team discussions to evaluate patient care.
- Communicates pertinent information to ensure continuity of care.
- Implementation:
- Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex issues, considering physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care.
- Performs bedside point of care testing as required by the patient care plan.
- Utilizes nursing standards, policies, and procedures in delivering care.
- Organizes and prioritizes care based on patient and family needs.
- Consults with appropriate resources regarding complex care issues and high-risk discharge planning.
- Leadership:
- Develops goals to promote professional growth or address limitations, achieving them within the identified time frame or renegotiating with a supervisor.
- Is knowledgeable about activities that facilitate intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
- Participates in unit goals and performance improvement activities.
- Effectively uses communication systems and promotes cost-effective care.
- Provides constructive feedback to co-workers.
- Stays informed about public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting the healthcare environment.
- Promotes a safe, clean, and secure environment for all individuals.
- Patient Assessment:
- Recognizes data from complex situations to establish priorities for care.
- Considers physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments.
- Synthesizes assessment data into a comprehensive overview for communication.
- Assesses and anticipates discharge needs for patients and families.
- Develops supportive relationships with families to empower them to advocate for their needs.
- Planning:
- Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update the care plan.
- Utilizes available multidisciplinary resources in care planning.
- Applies a full range of communication methods in planning processes.
- Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic considerations in patient care planning.
- Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex needs.
- Research:
- Reviews professional journals for relevant studies and articles.
- Shares ideas and inquiries with colleagues for assessment of applicability in practice.
Qualifications
- Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of one (1) year of clinical nursing experience.
- Required Education:
- Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited school of Nursing.
- Preferred Education:
- BSN or MSN from an accredited School of Nursing.
