Medical-Surgical/PCU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Medical-Surgical/PCU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic healthcare team. This position involves providing high-quality patient care in a stepdown unit focusing on neuro trauma and surgical patients.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Stepdown
• Number of Beds: 28
• Nurse-Patient Ratios: Days: 1:4-5, Nights: 1:5-6 (dependent on acuity)
• Common Diagnoses: Neuro-related conditions such as strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barré syndrome, Myasthenia gravis, spinal injuries, and trauma-related orthopedic injuries.
• Required Skills and Experience:
  • 2 years of experience in Medical-Surgical, PCU, or ICU settings.
  • Recent experience within the last year is essential.
  • Ability to manage intravenous drips, including but not limited to Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, and Insulin.
  • Experience with tracheostomy and ventilator management is highly preferred, but training will be provided.

Shift Information

• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Schedule: Every other weekend and holiday required.
• Self-scheduling: Available with shifts opened six weeks in advance.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care to patients in the stepdown unit, including assessing and managing complex patient needs.
• Titrate drips as required and ensure proper monitoring of patients.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes.
• Document all patient care activities accurately and timely.

Orientation and Training

• Complete a general orientation plus one shift with a preceptor.

Additional Information

• There are nurse aides on the unit to assist with patient care.
• Floating to sister units may be required.
• Scrub color is any solid color scrubs.
