Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team on the night shift. The ideal candidate will have experience in either ICU or Pediatric settings and be prepared to deliver high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care to a diverse patient population in a stepdown unit.
• Monitor and assess patient conditions, reporting changes to the healthcare team.
• Administer medications and treatments, including titratable drips such as heparin, insulin, and others as needed.
• Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Educate patients and families about health conditions and care plans.
• Participate in unit activities, including staff meetings and training sessions.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with specific experience in ICU or Pediatric settings preferred.
• Must possess current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
• Strong ability to read rhythm strips and respond to telemetry alerts.
• Experience with monitor technology and familiarity with GE ApexPro CH monitors is a plus.
• Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks in a busy environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Unit Information

• Size: 20 beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
  • Med-Surg: 1:5 days, 1:6 nights
  • IMC: 1:4
  • ICU: 1:2
  • Pediatric: 1:3-4
• Common Diagnoses Include:
  • Cardiac: CHF exacerbation, atrial fibrillation, bradycardia
  • Pulmonary: Pneumonia, COPD exacerbation, respiratory failure
  • Neurological: TIA, stroke, detox
  • Gastrointestinal: GI bleed, pancreatitis, intestinal resections
  • Genitourinary: Kidney stones, AKI, UTI
  • Orthopedic: Hip and shoulder fractures, post-operative care
  • Outpatient: Transfusions and antibiotic infusions
  • Pediatric: Stable patients with respiratory illnesses and dehydration

Work Schedule

The position involves 12-hour night shifts from 1900 to 0700, with every other weekend and holiday responsibilities.

Orientation and Training

New hires will undergo a comprehensive orientation program, including a combination of computer-based training and hands-on shift orientation.

Additional Information

The registered nurses will be supported by nursing aides and respiratory therapists, ensuring adequate staffing levels to provide excellent patient care.
