PCU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure eligible for practice in Washington
- At least 1 year of progressive care or PCU nursing experience
- First-time travelers may be considered with at least 2 years of total nursing experience, including 1 year of PCU experience
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Strong cardiac assessment skills, including the ability to read, interpret, and measure cardiac rhythms
- Experience caring for patients receiving BiPAP and high-flow oxygen
- Comfort managing cardiac patients and titratable medications, including diltiazem, amiodarone, heparin, digoxin, Bumex, and Lasix
- Compassionate, adaptable approach to caring for diverse and underserved patient populations
Progressive Care RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for progressive care, telemetry, and oncology patients
- Care for patients with medical conditions including diabetes, gastrointestinal and genitourinary disorders, pneumonia, altered mental status, TIA, acute kidney injury, dehydration, sepsis, stroke, dialysis needs, pulmonary edema, anemia, shock, and hypoxia
- Provide cardiac care for patients with CHF, MI, atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response, NSTEMI, chest pain, and other cardiac conditions
- Perform pre- and post-procedure care for PCI and cardiac catheterization patients
- Monitor fresh post-cath patients, including frequent checks and care of TR bands and stent-placement patients
- Provide central-line maintenance, tracheostomy care, chest-tube care, and general progressive care nursing interventions
- Recognize and respond to changes in cardiac rhythm, respiratory status, neurological condition, and hemodynamic stability
- Care for oncology patients as assigned, including patients with leukemia and neutropenia; chemotherapy administration is not routinely required unless specifically indicated
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to promote safe, compassionate, and effective patient outcomes
- Float to other appropriate units within the nurse's scope and competency as needed
