Join a skilled acute-care nursing team as a Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse (PCU RN) supporting an ER Holds department in Norfolk, Virginia. Provide telemetry nursing care, monitor clinical status, coordinate orders, and help patients transition safely to the appropriate inpatient unit. When ER Holds volume is low, you may float to progressive care units. Registered Nurse Job Details

Progressive Care Unit RN Job Requirements

  • Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Virginia
  • At least 2 years of professional Registered Nurse experience
  • At least 1 year of recent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Telemetry nursing experience
  • Experience caring for patients in an emergency department hold, step-down, or acute-care setting preferred
  • Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and care coordination skills
  • Ability to work independently and float to PCU units as department needs require
  • Availability to work at least one 12-hour shift per month

PCU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, compassionate acute-care nursing to patients held in the emergency department while they await inpatient bed placement
  • Complete focused nursing assessments, monitor telemetry and clinical changes, and promptly escalate concerns
  • Carry out patient care orders and coordinate treatment activities with the interdisciplinary healthcare team
  • Support admissions, transfers, and transitions of care to the appropriate inpatient unit
  • Manage the needs of multiple patients while maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Float to Progressive Care Unit and step-down units when ER Holds volume is low
  • Promote patient safety, comfort, quality care, and continuity throughout the patient stay
