PCU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Kansas
  • Minimum of 1 year of RN experience in a progressive care, step-down, telemetry, or comparable acute care setting
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias
  • IV-start experience
  • Experience with Meditech electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Willingness to participate in weekend rotation and float within scope of practice when needed
  • Must complete required pre-assignment health screening and drug screening procedures

Progressive Care Unit RN Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to progressive care patients requiring close assessment, cardiac monitoring, and specialized clinical support
  • Assess patient conditions, recognize changes in clinical status, and implement timely nursing interventions
  • Interpret cardiac rhythms and manage dysrhythmias in collaboration with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team
  • Administer medications and treatments safely while monitoring patient response
  • Initiate and maintain IV access and perform ongoing vascular access assessments
  • Coordinate care with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to support positive patient outcomes
  • Document assessments, interventions, and patient progress accurately in Meditech
  • Provide patient and family education regarding treatment plans, medications, and recovery
  • Float to other units within scope of practice when needed to support continuity of care
