PCU Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Ypsilanti, Michigan

  • Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
  • Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Thanksgiving and one additional winter holiday
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Typically 4:1, occasionally 3:1

PCU RN Job Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Michigan
  • At least 1 year of recent PCU, progressive care, step-down, or ICU nursing experience
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Demonstrated ability to care for high-acuity surgical patients
  • Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and clinical decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage complex lines, drains, tubes, devices, and intravenous infusions
  • Epic electronic health record experience preferred
  • Ability to complete required facility credentialing, health screening, and competency validation

Progressive Care Unit RN Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients recovering from complex surgical procedures and requiring progressive care monitoring.
  • Assess patient status, identify changes in condition, and promptly communicate clinical concerns to the appropriate care team.
  • Manage patients with chest tubes, arterial lines, PICC lines, central lines, ostomies, tracheostomies, nasogastric tubes, wound vacuums, and other drains.
  • Safely administer and monitor intravenous infusions, including heparin, insulin, nitroglycerin, amiodarone, and diltiazem.
  • Perform medication administration, treatments, documentation, patient education, and care coordination in accordance with professional standards.
  • Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary team members to support patient recovery, safety, and positive outcomes.
  • Respond effectively to rapidly changing patient needs in a busy surgical step-down environment.
