Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care on a 35-bed Medical Step-Down / Progressive Care Unit serving an adult population with two levels of acuity, including telemetry monitoring and intermediate care
  • Manage patients presenting with frequent diagnoses including CAD, CHF, R/O MI, CVA, COPD, pneumonia, DKA, sepsis, end-stage renal and liver disease, and GI bleed
  • Titrate vasoactive drips including Nitroglycerin, Cardene, and Cardizem; administer IV therapy including Amiodarone and manage peritoneal dialysis patients
  • Assist with or support procedures such as chest tube insertion, central line insertion, HD tunneled catheter insertion, and thoracentesis
  • Maintain a patient-family centered care approach with a strong focus on quality indicators and safe patient care practices
  • Float to ED, Med-Surg, or ICU as needed based on unit and staffing requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license valid for practice in North Carolina
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHS) certification required
  • Proficiency in IV insertion
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health records
  • Must successfully pass required Relias competency exams upon booking (2 attempts allowed; failure on second attempt results in pre-start cancellation)
  • Must live at least 80 miles from the facility to be eligible

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Prior experience in a PCU, step-down, or medical intermediate care unit setting
  • Familiarity with telemetry monitoring and management of cardiac and respiratory conditions
  • Experience titrating vasoactive medications in an acute care environment
  • Charge nurse or leadership experience in a high-acuity medical unit
