Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a Cardiac Progressive Care Unit. This position requires dedication to providing high-quality care in a fast-paced environment focused on cardiac patients.

Schedule

• Shift: 3x12s Night Shift (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
• Weekend Rotation and Holidays as needed
• Self-assisted scheduling through Optilink

Patient Care Ratios

Staff will manage patient ratios of 1:4 for higher acuity cases with drips and BiPAP, and generally 1:5 for other assignments.

Essential Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Cardiac Progressive Care setting
• Previous Charge Nurse experience is preferred
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS required; NIH certification preferred

Technical Skills Required

• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Telemetry monitoring
• Pre/Post Cardiac Catheterization care
• Peripheral line care and management
• PICC line management
• Cardiac drips management (without titration)
• Vasoactive drips management (without titration)
• Procedural sedation administration
• Chest tube management (Emerson, Pleur-evac)
• External CPAP/BiPAP and tracheostomy management

Patient Population Focus

The primary focus will be on cardiac patients, specifically those with:

• Congestive Heart Failure
• Acute Coronary Syndrome
• Arrhythmias
• Pre and post cardiac catheterization care
• Rule out myocardial infarction
• Syncope and pacemaker placement

Secondary focus will be on respiratory conditions, including COPD and pneumonia.

Unit Information

The Cardiac Medical Progressive Care Unit consists of 30 private beds, providing comprehensive care 24/7. Rooms are monitored remotely by a centralized cardiac monitoring department.

Support Staff

Dedicated nurse assistants are available 24/7, with an RN secretary on duty from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM to support patient care activities.
