PCU Travel Nurse Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of recent SDU, PCU, or IMCU nursing experience
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio or a compact state
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Successful completion of a dysrhythmia examination
• Demonstrated experience caring for ventilated patients at the intermediate-care level
• Strong assessment, prioritization, critical-thinking, and clinical judgment skills
• Ability to work night shifts in a fast-paced, high-acuity progressive care environment
• Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN), Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), BSN, and critical-care education are preferred

PCU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Complete comprehensive initial and ongoing assessments for patients with complex and changing conditions.
• Develop, implement, prioritize, and evaluate individualized plans of care using the nursing process.
• Monitor patients with cardiac, respiratory, neurological, renal, gastrointestinal, and multisystem conditions.
• Care for patients receiving BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow oxygen, heated high-flow nasal cannula, and mechanical ventilation.
• Manage and monitor cardiac and other prescribed infusions, including Cardizem, amiodarone, nitroglycerin, heparin, Lasix, and Bumex, according to scope of practice and policy.
• Perform hemodynamic monitoring and recognize signs of clinical deterioration.
• Care for patients with chest tubes, temporary or transvenous pacing, and other advanced monitoring needs.
• Support patients undergoing care related to NSTEMI, cardioversion, stress testing, transesophageal echocardiography, acute kidney injury, chronic renal failure, gastrointestinal bleeding, COPD, CHF, and other complex conditions.
• Administer medications and treatments safely while evaluating their effectiveness and potential adverse responses.
• Collaborate with providers, nursing assistants, care coordinators, patients, and families to ensure safe, coordinated care.
• Serve as a patient advocate and provide compassionate education tailored to individual needs, preferences, and health literacy.
• Recognize and respond promptly to emergency situations while maintaining patient safety, privacy, and infection-control standards.
