PCU Travel RN Job Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of recent Registered Nurse (RN) experience, including acute-care hospital experience
- Progressive care, stepdown, critical care, or comparable high-acuity nursing experience
- Current Registered Nurse license valid in Ohio or through a compact licensure arrangement
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Successful completion of a dysrhythmia examination is required
- Experience with post-cardiac catheterization care is strongly preferred
- Travel nursing experience is preferred but not required
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, organization, and collaboration skills
- Ability to safely care for patients requiring cardiac monitoring, invasive lines, chest tubes, and advanced respiratory modalities
PCU Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive initial and ongoing assessments of Progressive Care Unit patients and identify priority clinical needs
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise individualized plans of care using the nursing process
- Monitor patients with complex cardiac, respiratory, and multisystem conditions and respond promptly to changes in condition
- Provide post-cardiac catheterization care, including management of TR bands and groin sites
- Administer medications and manage ordered cardiac infusions, which may include amiodarone, nitroglycerin, diltiazem, furosemide, milrinone, and heparin
- Perform and interpret ongoing cardiac rhythm surveillance and escalate dysrhythmias or other significant findings appropriately
- Care for patients with central lines, Foley catheters, chest tubes, and other specialized drains or devices
- Assess and manage patients receiving high-flow oxygen, BiPAP, Vapotherm, and other advanced respiratory support
- Conduct hemodynamic monitoring and support patients requiring temporary or transvenous pacing
- Administer conscious sedation medications as permitted by policy, training, and scope of practice
- Coordinate care with providers, patient care technicians, families, and the interdisciplinary team
- Educate patients and families while promoting safety, privacy, dignity, and informed participation in care
- Document care accurately in the electronic health record and participate in quality improvement initiatives
