TotalMed RN is seeking a travel nurse RN PCU - Progressive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Shreveport, Louisiana.
CLINICAL PHONE INTERVIEWS
UNIT: 2 East Stepdown
Experience Required: 1-2 years. First time travelers must have 2 years of perm staff RN experience in acute care
Certs Required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS. (LVAD PREFERRED), Active LA/Compact license for submission.
Skills Required:
Traveler will be required to PASS an EKG competency exam as part of compliance, prior to arrival (includes MedSurg RN)
General PCU skillset: titrating cardiac drips, insulin drips and vasopressors to include – Esmolol, Cardene, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Milrinone, Labetolol, Levophed, Nipride, Nitro; chest tubes, traches, central line management, management of drains/tubes, wound care, etc.
Cardiac skills: may be seen on all (3) units - management and pulling venous sheaths, TR Bands, managing Temporary pacemakers – preferred skills
Floating: Units: possibly to 2 North (Medical Stepdown) or Medsurg (1:5-6 ratios)
Patient Types: s/p CABG, Lung surgery (lobectomy/VATS – video assisted thoracic surgery), PCI – percutaneous intervention, AICD (Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) placement, TAVR, etc.
Medical Stepdown overflow: Include but are not limited to - Respiratory failure, CVA, DKA, Sepsis, s/p surgery, s/p cardiac cath with intervention, frequent monitoring and/or intervention, ETOH with CIWA, IVDA, AMS, etc.
Patient Ratios: 1:3-4
General Information:
Beds: 24-25 (depending on assigned unit)
*2W Cardiac Stepdown – 24 beds
*2E Medical Stepdown – 18 beds
*2N Medical Stepdown – 25 beds
*Will Accept a First-time traveler? First time travelers must have 2 years of perm staff (acute care) RN experience
*Travelers must be separated for 1 year if previously a perm staff
Patient Types:
*Traveler will be assigned a home unit on one of the 3 units below during Orientation. Please advise CRT if they are not experienced with Cardiac *Stepdown patients in the offer email and would only be qualified for Medical Stepdown.
2W Cardiac Stepdown:

Cardiac Overflow
Preferred: LVAD certification (2 West only)
Support on the Unit:
CNA: Days: 2 techs; Nights: 1 tech
Cardiac Rehab tech – days only (Cardiac PCU only)
Unit secretary – days only (2W and 2N only)
Charge nurse: may or may not have patient assignment
Phlebotomy – in house
VAT Team – in house
Resource Nurse – Head RN and PCC available 0700-1500
RT – assigned to unit
Hospitalist available – on call, 24/7
Charting System/Equipment:
EMR: Meditech Expanse
IV Pumps: Alaris
Medication dispensing: Pyxis
Floating:
Units: possibly to 2 North or 2 East (Medical Stepdown) or Medsurg (1:5-6 ratios)
Orientation:
2 days of hospital orientation and 2 shifts on unit
Scheduling:
Weekend rotation: every other weekend
Will work 4 days one week and 3 days the next week – this is mandatory
Can we approve time off? up to 7 days – must extend contract for any full week of RTO
DECLINE if more than 7 days of RTO-do not send for manager approval
May only request (1) weekend of RTO per 13-week contract
Will they be on call? If so, what is that schedule? No call
Holiday Expectations: will work 2/3 major holidays
Scrub Color:
Pewter
T-shirts must be gray, white or black with WK monogram (they are at scrub shops and inexpensive)
Jackets must be gray or black
Badges must be worn above the waist and in full view at all times
Parking: Free in designated areas
